Toxins – a part of your every day life

Chemicals and Toxins in your body

You may think you’re looking after yourself. You exercise, you try and eat healthy.

However, many of us are unknowlingly subjecting ourselves and our bodies to a very high level of toxins every day.  Whether it be in the foods we eat, the medical prescriptions we take, the skin and beauty products we use, even the air we breathe.

“How many toxins exist in your every day?”

Here’s a list of examples where dangerous or damaging toxins can be present in our day-to-day activities.  Toxins that enter our body.

See how many you nod your head to.

Don’t worry, we might all do these actions.  It’s how we go about them that can change things – and help us detoxify…

Applied straight to your skin

toxins personal

  • Your day commences with showering with soap, using shave gel and after-shave gel, applying underarm deoderant, moisturising your skin, cleansing, toning & moisturing your face, applying makeup, styling your hair with one or two different products.
  • Each other day you also wash and condition your hair and apply more hair products.
  • When outdoors during the day, putting on sunscreen is a must in our harsh climate.
  • If outdoors at dusk you apply and re-apply insect repellent liberally, as you must have a sign on you saying “bite me”.

Toxins Ingested

  • You drink lots of tap water, but the pipes must be pretty old as the water is quite cloudy. “Oh well, what doesn’t kill me will only make me stronger, right?!”  Wrong. Pure clean water is essential for good health. Filtering your water removes any harmful bacteria and parasites, environmental contaminants and heavy metals (rust, copper, lead) but you can also benefit by increasing alkalinity, which helps balance your body pH or acidity.
  • You are quite vigilant about your recommended serves of fruit & vegetables a day. You never buy organic and think it’s only an old wifes tale that you should rinse them before eating them. (*Shudder* think about all the pesticides and chemicals used)
  • You wash up each night and without rinsing, leave the dishes to dry whilst you return to relax on the lounge.
  • During hayfever season, you seem to be hit worst, so you make sure you take a daily preventative (which may or may not lessen the symptoms but most definitely helps fuel the toxic cycle).
  • Worse still, you seem to get the flu every time it goes around the office, so you trundle off to the doctors, who without blinking an eye prescribes a course of antibiotics. This only happens about three times a year, but the antibiotics don’t even seem to work anymore?
  • Then the antibiotics you take leave you with other “itchy” symptoms, so you go back to the doctor who prescribes you with another course of different antibiotics.

Toxins Inhaled

toxins household

  • At the weekend you do all the washing, starting with prewash stain remover, then detergent, colour brightener and fabric softner.
  • Then you do the household cleaning; using one product on your shower, another on your toilet, yet more products for your oven, windows, floors and benchtops.  Hint: Vinegar can be used for much more than putting on salads, fish and chips :)
  • Once a month you go to the salon and have your nails done. (C’mon, a smell that strong can’t be good for us??)
  • Let’s not think about how many other different workplaces use multiple types of potentially toxic chemicals – think building sites, printers, cleaners, hospitals, etc.  For now, let’s take this one out of your equation, as it’s not something you can easily control or alter, unlike all the other examples I’ve given.

“Oh, Get off your Toxin High Horse”

I know by now you’re thinking I’m just raving and ranting, but I just wanted to make the point and help you think about the different ways in which toxins are present in out everyday activities.  Maybe not yourself, but some people subject themselves to extremely high levels of toxins.

Toxins may be a part of your everyday life – but do they need to be?

Get Rid of Toxins!

All of the above can be rectified.  Help detoxify your body by using safe, natural products and supplements, drinking pure filtered water and eating organic foods where possible.

Don’t worry, I’m not suggesting you waste money by throwing out all your household and beauty products.

In these hard financial times, we need tips to save money wherever we can. Why not just replace little by little as your non-natural products run out and set yourself a goal to have a chemical-free house down the track.  Hey, and don’t think I’m suggesting you give up your vices – you can even get organic wine ;)

If you want to find out more information about how to eliminate body toxins, or if you want some tips about natural product replacements, feel free to drop me a note.

Best in health,

Monique
